New auditorium is music to Rockingham students' ears

A new $1.5million auditorium for dance and drama classes at Rockingham Senior High School will allow teachers to develop new ways to engage students.

Opening the facility today, Education Minister Liz Constable said the multipurpose auditorium would provide more flexibility for staff and students.

"Rockingham Senior High School has a proud history of innovation and forging partnerships with business, industry and government to benefit students and the Rockingham community," Dr Constable said.

"This new auditorium is another example of the school community working to give students even greater opportunities and a broad range of subjects from which to choose at senior secondary level.

"The auditorium is the culmination of a decade of planning by the school and will also provide a space to hold concerts, exhibitions, award presentations and student examinations."

The auditorium was part-funded with $800,000 from the State Government.

Its features include:

·             theatre

·             two multi-purpose rooms

·             large lecture space with retractable seating

·             drama store room

·             prop store.

"The building was designed to provide multipurpose learning with large flexible floor space that can be closed off into two teaching spaces," the Minister said.
