Transfer of Pilbara Cities program to PDC has added further responsibilities
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today announced new membership of the Pilbara Development Commission Board (PDC), appointing Mike Hollett as board chairman.
Mr Hollett is the former chief executive officer of the National Lifestyle Villages Group and has worked extensively in the private and public sector, delivering land, housing and infrastructure to regional areas. He is also a director on the Water Corporation board.
Other new appointees are Cr Bill Dziombak, president of the Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce; Cr Fiona White-Hartig, president of the Shire of Roebourne; and Cr Gloria Jacobs from the Town of Port Hedland.
Members reappointed to the board are Chris Adams, chief executive officer of the Shire of Roebourne; Cr Lynne Craigie, president of the Shire of East Pilbara; and Robin Vandenberg, president of the Karratha Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr Adams has been appointed as deputy chairman.
Two board positions remain vacant pending further discussions with the Federal Minister for Regional Development. They will be used to incorporate representatives from Regional Development Australia-Pilbara on the PDC board.
"There are strong synergies between the commission and Regional Development Australia-Pilbara with both agencies focused on achieving robust social and economic outcomes to support a growing region," Mr Grylls said.
"The inclusion of representatives from Regional Development Australia-Pilbara on the board makes sense and will engender greater collaboration and partnership between all levels of governments for improved decision-making for the Pilbara.
"As a key decision-making body in the region, the PDC has an important role in ensuring the development of the Pilbara is on track and responding to the needs of a rapidly expanding population, as well as having the Pilbara Cities program added to its responsibilities."
The Minister said he had great confidence in the composition of the new board and looked forward to working with Mr Hollett and the team in achieving a bright and prosperous future for the Pilbara.
Mr Grylls also paid tribute to the outgoing board members and thanked them for their commitment and valuable contribution to the commission and the Pilbara during an important period in the region's history.
