New buildings for year 7s at Darling Range Sports College
- New classrooms unveiled at Darling Range Sports College
$2.6 million development to assist the year 7 move
A new classroom building has transformed Darling Range Sports College and will accommodate the increase in students when the college welcomes year 7s next year.
Education Minister Peter Collier visited the college this morning to officially open the new facilities.
"The extensions are essential to accommodate nearly 200 year 7 students who will join the college next year," Mr Collier said.
The works have created a fresh and modern outlook while adding five classrooms, external activity areas, toilets and a staff preparation area.
The college, which will become an Independent Public School in 2015, will continue its specialist sporting programs, enabling year 7s to access this valuable opportunity.
"While the college has a major focus on sport, it has built a strong reputation for high quality academic and arts programs," the Minister said.
"As part of the tight knit Darling Range learning community, year 6 and 7 students from local primary schools have been visiting the college to prepare for the transition."
The new facilities are among 29 capital works projects, worth $229.6 million, built as part of the State Government's move of year 7 students to secondary school in 2015.
