Parents in the Mandurah area will now find it easier to take their young children to vital health checks, as well as access playgroups and parenting programs.

Officially opening the $1.22 million Child and Parent Centre at Dudley Park Primary School, Education Minister Peter Collier said a child health nurse, speech therapy and early learning programs were among the services for families.

"We know the very early years, particularly from birth to four years of age, are especially critical times for young children's growth and development," Mr Collier said.

"This purpose-built centre will provide extra support for parents so they can help prepare their young children for the transition to school."

The Child and Parent Centre - Dudley Park, managed by Anglicare WA, includes a fully equipped child health clinic room, consultants' rooms and versatile group room.

The Minister said the centre was one of 16 the State Government had established on school sites to help parents give their children the best start in life.

"A local advisory committee, made up of community and government representatives, the City of Mandurah, and chaired by Dudley Park Primary School principal Aaron Thomas, has played a valuable role in establishing this centre," he said.
