New classrooms for Warnbro ahead of year 7 arrival

Warnbro Community High School students will move into a new $7 million expansion when year 7 becomes the first year of secondary school in 2015.

Officially opening the new building today, Education Minister Peter Collier said the school would accommodate more than 1,200 students, up from around 1,040 this year.

"With the school growing, it's vital all students and staff have access to high quality, modern teaching and learning facilities," Mr Collier said.

Among the features of the new two-storey building are eight classrooms, a science laboratory and preparation area, visual arts room and drama and dance room, as well as an undercover verandah.

Additional car parking and landscaped areas have also been provided.

The Minister said the school was well-equipped to provide a broad curriculum.

"This school is part of the Peron Alliance Curriculum and Teaching, which is an outstanding example of how neighbouring schools can work together," he said.

"Students with an interest in creative arts, adventure recreation, and design technology are also well served with the specialist programs provided at the school."

Mr Collier said the new facilities are among 29 capital works projects, worth $229.6 million, being built to accommodate year 7s in secondary school.
