New two-storey building and play areas opened at West Leederville PS
$5.4 million upgrade includes new facilities for students and staff
A nature playground designed around an iconic Moreton Bay fig tree, and a two-storey classroom building are part of a new look at historic West Leederville Primary School.
Education Minister Peter Collier officially opened the $5.4 million upgrade today, which included new classrooms for students in pre-primary and years 1 and 2.
"The classrooms provide the very best in early childhood learning for the growing number of students in these years," Mr Collier said.
The new building includes three early childhood learning areas, four general learning areas, activity spaces, a staff study and a lift to assist students with disabilities.
"A large sandpit, nature playground, outdoor amphitheatre and bike paths are providing stimulating play opportunities for students," the Minister said.
The school community designed an artwork to complement the school environment and new facilities.
"Close to 500 students drew pictures of native flora that are incorporated into a lace wire fence spanning eight metres along the new playing courts and classroom block," Mr Collier said.
"It's a wonderful example of a community coming together and taking great pride in their school."
