New extended-stay option for winter on Rotto
- Holiday-makers can now take a long break on Rotto with new deal
- Cost 45 per cent below normal rate to allow more than eight weeks on the island
- 10-pass travel booklet provides ferry fares for less than $35 each round trip
Holiday-makers, artists and retirees are being encouraged to spend winter on Rottnest Island with a new extended-stay deal being offered for the first time, Tourism Minister Kim Hames said today.
The extended-stay deal means people can book at Rottnest for longer than eight weeks at 45 per cent the normal weekly rate, with prices starting from $480 per week for a four-bedroom unit.
Transport has also been discounted, with ferry fares of $34.50 return available in 10-trip booklets, which can also be used by family and friends.
Dr Hames said the deal would start on June 8 and continue through to September.
"This is the first time longer stays have been an option on Rottnest. Our maximum accommodation length at present is 28 days," he said.
"Rottnest is spectacular in winter and usually about eight degrees warmer than Perth. This long-stay option has been designed for people looking to do something a little bit different."
There have been 20 units set aside for this program in the Bathurst area, where upgrades have been completed.
"Traditionally, Rottnest Island has an average occupancy rate of 38.5 per cent during winter, which needs to be increased if we're going to improve tourism attractions on the island," the Minister said.
People who take up the long-stay option will be able to transport furniture to the island and the maximum length of stay is 16 weeks.
