New judge starts on July 1
Senior barrister Mark Herron has been appointed as a judge of the District Court of Western Australia.
Attorney General Michael Mischin said Mr Herron had a reputation for honesty and was well-regarded in the legal profession.
"Mr Herron has an impressive background in various areas of law and currently specialises in the workers compensation and personal injury field, including medical negligence," Mr Mischin said.
"He was admitted to practice in 1981 and commenced his career with the Crown Solicitor's Office, where he worked for the next three years.
"Mr Herron then became a partner for law firm Gibson and Gibson, and since 2000, he has practiced at the Bar at Francis Burt Chambers.
"In addition, he served as Commissioner in the District Court in 2008 and is currently one of two acting Commissioners of the Corruption and Crime Commission.
"Mr Herron has strong links to the community. For many years, he has advised the Sports Federation of WA and its various member bodies. He has had an extensive involvement with amateur football and in particular, administration of the amateur football league.
"He was a board member of the Welfare Rights and Advocacy Service between 1991 and 1998."
