New land options open up throughout the Kimberley
People looking to buy land in the Kimberley will have an enormous amount of choice with 145 lots for housing and light industry being released this week in Broome and Kununurra.
Regional Development and Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the release of the lots through LandCorp reflected the State Government's clear focus on making more land available for people living and working in the Kimberley.
"The Government has put considerable emphasis on making sure we can provide land to meet the growing needs of these towns," Mr Grylls said.
"These lots are the latest in a program of land releases to meet that need and give people the opportunity to buy affordable land for their homes and businesses."
The releases include 77 lots in the first stage of the Broome North development, Waranyjarri Estate. Chosen from the traditional Yawuru language, the name means 'the first'.
"Plans for Broome North show it will be an exciting development that will double the size of Broome and eventually be home to up to 13,000 people," the Minister said.
"It promises to set a new standard for Broome and I know many people have been waiting for the opportunity to buy in the development.
"I expect there will be keen demand for the lots in Waranyjarri Estate which have been released online today. (November 12)
"Registrations will close on Friday, November 26 and successful applicants will be selected through a random draw process, with preference going to first home buyers and local residents and business owners."
In another LandCorp release in Broome, 23 new light industrial lots are now for sale by private treaty. The lots are in an extension to the existing Blue Haze light industrial area just north of the town.
"The new release has a range of fully serviced lots ranging from 1,500sqm to 3,300sqm and will suit businesses that want to expand as well as new businesses wanting to move into the area," Mr Grylls said.
LandCorp's continuing work to provide new residential land in Kununurra also saw the release today of 12 lots in the Coolibah development and 33 in Stage Six at Lakeside.
The Minister said the Coolibah lots were part of a medium density estate that would eventually provide 124 homes, with a mix of public and private sector housing.
"The estate offers all the benefits that go with being in the town centre, including easy access to facilities such as the hospital, school, day care centre and sporting facilities," he said.
"These are all residential lots providing a new choice for Kununurra residents.
"The East Kimberley is a spectacular part of our State and, with the Ord-East Kimberley Expansion Project well under way, these home sites will be in strong demand."
The Kununurra lots at Coolibah and Lakeside are also being offered by registration of interest online. The registrations opened today (November 12) and close at 2pm on Friday, November 19.
Preference will be given to local Kununurra business owners and residents. For more information visit http://www.landcorp.com.au/Development-By-Region/Kimberley/
