Up to 70 students would develop essential life skills such as learning how to cook at an $857,315 centre completed by the State Government at Ballajura Community College.

Education Minister Liz Constable said the Community Learning Centre was provided through the Government's $578million capital and improvements work program to public schools.

"This outstanding new centre is designed to cater for students with learning or physical difficulties and has wheelchair access, a therapy and preparation room, purpose-built kitchen and laundry facilities," she said.

"The centre's location also allows students to easily access other areas of the college to take part in mainstream classes," she said.

Ballajura Community College headmaster Steffan Silcox said, as one of WA's first Independent Public Schools, he was thrilled the college was able to provide students with such an important facility.

"This modern centre will enable our inclusive learning students to access an appropriate curriculum that will help them develop everyday skills," Dr Silcox said.

"This centre will make the world of difference to these students in preparing them for life beyond the college."

The Minister said architecture firm Zuideveld Marchant and Hur designed the Community Learning Centre, which was constructed by Dalcon Construction Pty Ltd.
