More than 150 media personnel will converge at the WACA Ground later this month, as part of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, and enjoy world-class facilities.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies has unveiled a newly refurbished media centre at the WACA, which will host media outlets from around the world.

"They will be reporting on World Cup matches from Perth and will showcase Western Australia to the world, particularly to the reigning World Cup champions, India.  As part of the State Government's $1.8 million investment in the redeveloped media centre, international media will have better viewing access to games and improved facilities at the WACA Ground," Ms Davies said.

Perth is hosting three World Cup matches at the WACA Ground:

  • India v United Arab Emirates on Saturday, February 28, 2015

  • Australia v Afghanistan on Wednesday, March 4, 2015

  • India v West Indies on Friday, March 6, 2015.

The redevelopment has modernised the WACA's existing Level 5 broadcast media facility by:

  • improving sight lines for commentators to gain a full view of the playing arena

  • creating two TV studios and commentary suites, and five radio commentary studios

  • adding toilets and enhanced kitchen facilities

  • creating a wider and deeper camera gantry to increase safety and reduce commentary viewing restrictions

  • improving studio acoustics and general communications infrastructure.

Additionally the WACA's Level 4 corporate suites have been converted to flexible spaces which will allow for a full complement of print media for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and future use for match and non-match functions.

"Earlier this week I announced that the Socceroos will be playing a World Cup qualifier at Perth's nib Stadium and we will soon have five international cricket teams battling it out at the WACA, which is a great outcome for sporting fans in WA," the Minister said.
