The State Government has awarded a medical imaging services contract for Albany Health Campus worth $10.8million over 10 years.

Acting Health Minister Helen Morton said the contract was won by Great Southern Radiology following a public tender process.

"Great Southern Radiology is a local company employing local people and currently provides a comprehensive community imaging service," Mrs Morton said.

"The new contract to Albany Health Campus covers two phases - the first involving reporting and procedure runs until the new $170.4million campus opens in mid-2013 before progressing to a comprehensive radiological service."

The Great Southern Radiology contract, which starts on March 5, 2012, runs for 11 years and three months until 2023.

"Work is on track for the new hospital facility to be completed early in 2013. The new facility will provide increased services in mental health; sub-acute; surgical services; and a new short stay unit and fast track emergency area," the acting Minister said.

"The current Albany Hospital is the major medical centre for the region and these improvements will mean more people in the Great Southern will be able to have their care closer to home."
