New multi-purpose medical centre for Chittering

• Project to strengthen region's essential medical services
• $792,412 from Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund

Chittering and surrounding areas are set to benefit with a new multi-purpose medical centre at Bindoon, thanks to funding from the State Government's Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund.

The project will help strengthen the ability and capacity of the region to provide essential medical services.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the centre would address the growing need for more medical services to cater for the increasing tree change population.

"Without the new facility the region and local community risk losing the current services, which would mean travelling further afield for medical care and placing more pressure elsewhere," Mr Grylls said.

"Medical services are already stretched to the limit and no longer considered sustainable.

"This facility will ensure medical services continue well into the future and presents new opportunities to expand healthcare services in the region.

"Quality healthcare is a priority of Royalties for Regions funding and construction of new facilities will also attract and retain quality healthcare professionals to the Chittering area."

  • Comprising:  $792,412 from Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund (contributions from the shires of Chittering, Dowerin, Northam and Victoria Plains) and $182,789 from Shire of Chittering's own funding
• Bindoon is 85km from Perth on the Great Northern Highway, in the Shire of Chittering
• Under the RfR program, Govt has provided $1.44m in regional grants to the Wheatbelt to improve economic/community infrastructure and services
