New program builds WA's multicultural fabric
- Three organisations will receive $810,000 over three years as part of new partnership services to address social cohesion, employment and leadership
The State Government today announced a new initiative to support Western Australia's multicultural community, including a youth program that aims to build resilience to counter extremist influences.
Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Mike Nahan said three community organisations would receive $810,000 in total over three years through the Multicultural Partnerships Program to deliver initiatives that develop our culturally diverse communities through collaboration, leadership and innovation.
This new program, managed by the Office of Multicultural Interests, aims to support the delivery of services that address the priority areas that have been identified by migrants themselves.
"Western Australia's great strength is the diversity of our community and these new initiatives will help to ensure migrants are equipped with the skills, knowledge and capacity to face the complex issues impacting them today," Dr Nahan said.
From 2016 to 2018, the organisations and initiatives to receive funding are:
Relationships Australia Western Australia Inc. ($100,000 per annum)
A Shared Future - a capacity building program to increase social cohesion by working with young people and communities to increase intercultural understanding, reduce economic, social and cultural isolation, and provide the knowledge and skills to counter extremist influences
