New sports pavilion for growing Harrisdale
State Government allocates $800,000 towards new sports pavilion in Harrisdale
Precinct will cater for growing local population
The community of Harrisdale is getting a new sports pavilion thanks to $800,000 from the State Government.
Premier Colin Barnett and Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies today visited the site where the multi-purpose sporting facility would be built.
Located on Skeet Road, Armadale in the electorate of Darling Range, the multi-purpose sporting facility will be part of a precinct which will include a primary school (opening 2016), a high school (opening in 2017), two senior-sized reserves and one junior reserve.
"Harrisdale is a fast-developing area of Armadale and this facility will be a valuable piece of local infrastructure," Mr Barnett said.
"A growing body of research supports the idea that children who are more physically active learn better, so it's fantastic to see projects like this transform vacant spaces into a combined sport and education hub."
Ms Davies said the City of Armadale received $800,000 towards the $4 million project through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF). The city will be responsible for the remaining cost of the facility.
"I was pleased to announce today that 38 projects across Western Australia will share in $14,932,083 under this latest grants round," she said.
"Active people create active and healthy communities. This sport and community centre that will be built here in Harrisdale will be a hub for local people of all ages to play sport, socialise and feel connected to their community."
Available for sporting, recreational and community activities, the building will comprise change rooms, bathrooms, storage and equipment rooms, a first aid room, kitchen, office, a large multi-function room and a smaller activity room. Construction is anticipated to begin later this year.
In this CSRFF round, the City of Armadale also received $500,000 for a playing field in Piara Waters South.
