  • Tender for stage two works on Ewlyamartup, Towerrinning and Yealering lakes now open

The State Government is taking another step towards revitalising three natural lakes in the Wheatbelt and Great Southern.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today announced the Government is seeking tender applications to produce designs and concept plans for three lakes as part of the second stage of the Living Lakes initiative.

The three lakes - Lake Towerrinning and Lake Yealering in the Wheatbelt and Lake Ewlyamartup in the Great Southern - were short-listed by stage one of the initiative.

Under the second stage of the initiative, concept planning and construction-ready engineering designs will be developed for the lakes as well as costings for enhancement options.

Mr Grylls said the Living Lakes project was designed to improve local amenities and recreational facilities.

"These lakes are popular destinations for camping and water sports, with the potential to be transformed into permanent living reservoirs," he said.

"Revitalising these water bodies could create significant social, economic and environmental benefits for residents and businesses in surrounding towns."

The Minister said several lakes across the Wheatbelt, Mid-West, Great Southern and South-West regions were considered as part of stage one of the Living Lakes initiatives, which received $600,000 from the State Government's Royalties for Regions program.

The first stage explored the feasibility and cost of enhancing existing lake systems.
