OCP moves to WA Police

The Office of Crime Prevention (OCP) will be incorporated within WA Police.

The Office of Crime Prevention (OCP) will be incorporated within WA Police.

Police Minister Rob Johnson said the move followed a review of the OCP conducted by WA Police.

Mr Johnson said the review found the change would reduce the duplication of services in human resources; marketing and administration.

"Crime prevention is a core police function, so it makes sense to amalgamate OCP within Police," he said.

"It also shows that the State Government is very serious about treating graffiti and other anti-social behaviour as a law enforcement issue.

"All OCP's core services will continue to operate, such as the Goodbye Graffiti program, CCTV grants, Burglar Beware, the school leavers program and Eyes on the Street.

"This change has the full support of the Police Commissioner and the WA Local Government Association, who agree that having a pro-active, intelligence-led crime prevention unit within WA Police will only enhance community safety."

All contract positions will not be renewed after they expire, and additional staff, not required by WA Police, will be redeployed to other agencies.

The office will be retained in its current premises in Governor Stirling Tower for the present time.
