Hon. Brendon Grylls
Workers retrenched from their roles at Harvey Beef will have access to Government resources at a one-stop-shop in Harvey.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls and Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman announced today that the State Government would use the Harvey Telecentre as the co-ordination point for retrenched workers who require assistance.
"A resource officer will be stationed in the Harvey Telecentre from today to assist those who have lost their jobs with financial and other advice. From March 23, a financial counsellor will be available in the Telecentre for four weeks," Mr Grylls said.
"The Small Business Development Corporation is available to assess any impact on other businesses in the town and can be accessed through the Telecentre.
"Centrelink has also ensured all information relevant to their services is available at the Telecentre and has advised they will be proactive in dealing with affected employees.
"Placing these services in the Harvey Telecentre means retrenched workers also have access to the internet to search for new job opportunities."
Mr Redman said the South West Regional College of TAFE, in collaboration with Centrelink and Jobs South West Community Services, would host a forum for members of the community affected by the retrenchments. The forum would be held from 10am to 3pm on Friday, March 20 at the Harvey TAFE Campus and would provide information on training, job search and career development options.
"The State Government recently announced that TAFE colleges will provide a dedicated point of contact for its Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) service so existing or retrenched workers can pursue a formal qualification," he said
"I urge workers to access these services and take advantage of the pool of information and assistance. The Harvey Telecentre can be contacted from 10am-5pm on 9729 1669. It is located in the Piazza san Paolo, Unit 4, 5 Hayward Street, Harvey.
"We would like to offer our thanks to the agencies involved in this co-ordinated response - the Department of Local Government and Regional Development, the Department for Child Protection, Small Business Development Corporation, TAFE, Centrelink Jobs South West and in particular, the Harvey Telecentre."
