Outdoor family fun provides funding boost for PCYC
Albany PCYC Gymnastics has received a $1,000 donation in recognition of its outstanding community services following a winning competition nomination by a Great Southern family.
Community Services Minister Robyn McSweeney congratulated the organisation for its successful nomination in the Families Week 2011 Outdoor Family Fun Competition.
The State-wide competition, coordinated by the Department for Communities, called on local families to write, photograph or draw their views of what family meant to them.
"I would also like to thank the Mutton family of Milpara for submitting their winning photograph which strikingly captured the quality time they spent outdoors as a family," Mrs McSweeney said.
"Spending time outdoors is a great way for families to lead a healthy lifestyle and plays an important part in the development of children.
"It is important the groups providing vital services enabling families to enjoy those activities in regional communities receive recognition, particularly from community members.
"It is equally important they are provided support so they can continue to offer important services to benefit people in their local communities. It is pleasing to provide this funding to the Albany PCYC in recognition of its good community work."
The Mutton family also received a $200 voucher to spend with their favourite local business.
The competition was held earlier in the year as part of Families Week - Australia's main annual event celebrating the importance of families.
