Party drugs have severe mental health consequences

Mental Health Minister Dr Graham Jacobs has cautioned people to consider the consequences for their mental health if they use illicit drugs.

Mental Health Minister Dr Graham Jacobs has cautioned people to consider the consequences for their mental health if they use illicit drugs.

"I am strongly supportive of any police enforcement measure to tackle the prevalence of illicit drugs within the Western Australian community.  The immediate holiday party season is a time to be especially concerned about increased drug usage," Dr Jacobs said.

"The police presence at party season festivals and entertainment to enforce drug laws in the interests of better community mental health is to be commended.

"I'd like to remind people that if you use illegal drugs such as amphetamines and ecstasy, you risk developing serious physical and mental health problems.

"You cannot tell what the content or strength of an illegal drug is and many overdoses occur due to users not knowing the content or purity of the drugs they are using.

"Please take care of yourself and your friends during this summer holiday season and in an emergency seek help fast by calling an ambulance.

"By reacting fast you may save a life and avoid any regrets later."
