- Progress of Perth City Link on track and on schedule
The State Government has granted approval for the first private development of the Perth City Link marking another key milestone in delivery of the project.
Planning Minister John Day said approval had been granted to Leighton Properties, on behalf of Seven Entertainment Pty Ltd, for an 11-storey office and retail building to be developed on the former Perth Entertainment Centre site.
"Less than eight months since works commenced, the demolition of the Perth Entertainment Centre has been completed on schedule and the site has been cleared ready for future development," Mr Day said.
"The State Government has approved the construction of the first of six buildings to be developed as part of the Kings Square precinct on the site.
"This will add approximately 19,000sqm of floor space to Perth's CBD, including four retail tenancies at ground level, 10 floors of office space and a rooftop terrace."
The Minister said a number of key milestones in the Perth City Link project had been achieved this year.
"The commencement of preparatory works to sink the rail line, subdivision works near the Perth Arena and the first stage of a sales campaign for the right to develop more than 5ha of State Government land have all been achieved," he said.
"When complete, Perth City Link will deliver a range of benefits to the community including improved access and connectivity, new residential, retail and commercial accommodation and high quality public domain."
Perth City Link, together with Perth Waterfront, Riverside and the Perth Cultural Centre, will build the city's capacity, create new destinations for people to live, work and visit and increase intensity and activity in inner-city Perth.
