Peel region projects benefit from $533,000
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today announced $533,929 in new funding for 26 projects in the Peel region through the 2008-09 Regional Development Scheme.
The funded projects are diverse in nature and will make a significant contribution to the development of this dynamic region. The Government's funding will leverage project outcomes with a total value of $2.2million for the Peel region.
"One of the largest grants is to the Shire of Murray which received $50,000 towards their Community Facilities and Services plan," Mr Grylls said.
"The shire is growing rapidly and this plan will help them to identify and deliver the services and facilities that will be needed over the next 10 years."
Another major grant recipient this round is Peel Challenger TAFE which received $34,769 towards its new program, Seniors Supporting Juniors.
"This is an innovative program which will see retired or semi-retired trades people working alongside the trade students. This will help students gain a better understanding of their trade and therefore a greater opportunity to successfully complete their trade qualifications," the Minister said.
Mr Grylls said the Regional Development Scheme was part of the Government's ongoing commitment to assist with the economic and social development of regional Western Australia.
"This is the eighth year that the scheme has been available and I am very pleased to see the high calibre of applications that are being submitted," he said.
"The allocation of funding to a range of groups across the region will make a considerable difference to local communities and to the future of the Peel region."
