Permanent pedestrian access for Mandurah Ocean Marina

The State Government today announced a parcel of land originally earmarked for residential development in the Mandurah Ocean Marina, had been gifted as public open space.

At a ceremony to officially hand over management of the land to the City of Mandurah, Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the 958sqm site lay directly between the marina area and the Performing Arts Centre precinct and therefore provided a key pedestrian link for the use and enjoyment of residents and visitors.

"This Government is focused on creating better, more liveable communities all across Western Australia," Mr Grylls said.  

"When LandCorp identified a parcel of land in the Mandurah Ocean Marina area that would provide tangible social benefits for the community if rezoned from its current residential status, it decided to incorporate it into the existing Keith Holmes Reserve.

"As a result, there will be permanent, safe and direct access to the parklands, markets and alfresco dining on offer in the tourism precinct, as well as a direct link to the residential hub."

The new portion of Keith Holmes Reserve connects with the pedestrian footbridge providing a link between the North and South Harbours.

A major portion of land in the vicinity already has been dedicated to public open space, including foreshore areas, boardwalks, headland viewing points and piazzas.

The Mandurah Ocean Marina has won many significant awards, including the prestigious 2007 Urban Development Institute of Australia National Award for Excellence for a Masterplanned Development.
