Perth Theatre Trust strategic plan 2009-14 launched
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day launched the Perth Theatre Trust (PTT) strategic plan at Subiaco Arts Centre today.
The plan, entitled 'Showtime', sets the PTT's strategic direction for 2009-14.
The PTT is responsible for the management of Perth's premier performing arts venues: His Majesty's Theatre; Perth Concert Hall; Subiaco Arts Centre and The Playhouse Theatre, and the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia when it opens in 2010.
Mr Day said the PTT venues had an important role in supporting the vibrant cultural life of our State, by promoting participation in cultural activities and enhancing the artistic, cultural and economic life of Western Australia.
"The venues themselves have become a performing arts community in their own right and contribute strongly to the ongoing cultural development of WA's performing arts," he said.
PTT Chairman Dr Saliba Sassine said 'Showtime' would be implemented in two stages.
"Stage one, titled 'Setting the Scene', will see the rebuilding of the trust and is expected to take about two years," Dr Sassine said.
"Stage two, 'On with the Show', will see a re-established trust operating as a proactive, responsive organisation that adds significant value to the arts and entertainment sectors in our State and nationally."
Dr Sassine said the PTT venues continue to be well utilised, with almost half a million people attending more than 1,000 events at PTT venues in 2007-08.
