Perth to come alive at Christmas Pageant
- About 2,000 volunteer performers and 92 floats to take part in pageant
Lotterywest grant of $565,000 goes towards staging and project costs
The State Government, through Lotterywest, has contributed $565,000 to support this evening's 2013 City of Perth Christmas Pageant.
Parliamentary Secretary to Premier Colin Barnett, Donna Faragher said the pageant had become a firm fixture on the calendar of West Australian families with floats, bands and children's entertainment packing out St Georges Terrace.
Mrs Faragher said the Lotterywest grant would support the staging and project costs associated with the Christmas Pageant.
"Thanks to Lotterywest support, this year the people of Perth will enjoy additional pre-pageant entertainment along St Georges Terrace with a children's carnival of roving entertainers, magicians and clowns, as well as improved amenities," she said.
The Christmas Pageant is a free community event that has attracted generations of West Australian children and families over the past 42 years.
The event continues to grow in popularity with 2,000 volunteer performers and 92 floats expected in this year's pageant and a combined crowd of more than 200,000, and a television audience of 100,000.
"The pageant has developed over the years to be an event inclusive of many cultures which brings together the whole Western Australian community to celebrate Christmas," Mrs Faragher said.
WA is the only State where the money raised from the sale of Lottery products is distributed directly back to the community to support a range of events such as the Christmas Pageant.
2013 heralds Lotterywest's 80th year of supporting not-for-profit organisations that work to enrich Western Australian communities.
