Pipeline to secure Dwellingup's water supply

Dwellingup will soon have better quality water and a more secure supply with work on a new $7.

  • $7.3million pipeline on schedule for completion in December
  • 10km pipeline will connect Dwellingup to South Dandalup Dam

  • Pipeline will secure water supply and cater for future growth

Dwellingup will soon have better quality water and a more secure supply with work on a new $7.3million pipeline nearing completion.

Water Minister Terry Redman said the pipeline to connect Dwellingup to South Dandalup Dam was on schedule for completion this summer.

Mr Redman said the project would include construction of a new pump station at South Dandalup Dam to transfer water to the Dwellingup Water Treatment Plant.

"The pipeline will be completed by December 2013, with water from South Dandalup Dam reaching customers' taps shortly after," he said.

The Minister said Dwellingup was currently supplied by a soak on Dwellingerup Brook, which had become an increasingly unreliable water source in the drying climate.

"Sourcing water from South Dandalup Dam will improve the quality and reliability of supplies for the long-term and cater for future population growth in Dwellingup out to 2040," he said.

Mr Redman thanked the Dwellingup community for their efforts to save water after the lack of rain over the very dry summers of 2010-11 and 2012-13.

The Minister also advised residents to take care on local roads and adhere to all traffic management during the project's construction period.

The majority of the pipeline will be laid within the Del Park Road reserve, with trenchless technology to be used near the heritage-listed Newton Street precinct in Dwellingup's town centre and under the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway to limit construction impact on these areas.
