Police vehicles ready for summer party season
Transport vehicles complement Government's out-of-control parties' legislation
Government-funded PTVs fitted-out and ready to go
Another element of the State Government's plan to tackle out-of-control parties was implemented today, with a newly acquired police transport vehicle (PTV) ready for deployment.
Police Minister Liza Harvey inspected the PTV today and said the vehicle would allow police to arrest or hold up to 14 detainees in single and multiple pods.
"These PTVs will be an invaluable operational tool for police when they attend out-of-control parties as their capacity allows officers to apprehend multiple trouble-makers," she said.
"This means that during summer, more troublemakers at out-of-control parties can expect to be arrested for offences such as failing to disperse, as has been made law due to the Government's legislation.
"Young people identified as at risk at such gatherings can also expect to be apprehended and held."
The Minister said the Government had provided $1.3million for the lease and fit-out of two PTVs, the second of which will be ready next week.
"The vehicles have enhanced safety aspects including non-slip floors, modified surfaces and CCTV," Mrs Harvey said.
Police Commissioner Karl O'Callaghan said the PTVs provided police officers with a new tactical advantage.
"Officers will be able to safely detain multiple trouble makers or 'at risk' youth while being able to remain at the scene of these out of control gatherings until they are resolved," Mr O'Callaghan said.
