Premier unveils new-look Cabinet
Three new ministers and three new parliamentary secretaries
Premier Colin Barnett has today announced a new-look Cabinet, which will take the Liberal-National Government to the next election.
Promoted into Cabinet are Scarborough MLA Liza Harvey, Murray-Wellington MLA Murray Cowper and North Metropolitan Region MLC Michael Mischin, each well-credentialed parliamentary secretaries, with broad experience.
Mrs Harvey will take on the portfolios of Police and Road Safety, Mr Cowper has been appointed the Minister for Training and Workforce Development and Corrective Services and Mr Mischin will become the new Attorney General.
Mr Barnett has made a range of other changes to the Cabinet, Peter Collier will become the Education Minister, Troy Buswell will become the Treasurer and Terry Redman takes over Housing.
Mr Collier will retain Energy and Indigenous Affairs, Troy Buswell will keep Transport and Emergency Services and Terry Redman will combine his new responsibility with Agriculture and Food and Forestry.
The Premier has also announced the appointment of three new parliamentary secretaries, Riverton MLA Mike Nahan, Jandakot MLA Joe Francis and Ocean Reef MLA Albert Jacob.
The changes follow Bateman MLA Christian Porter's decision this month to resign from the Ministry to pursue a career in Federal politics.
Deputy Premier Kim Hames will become Leader of the House in the Legislative Assembly.
"This team reflects the talent and depth of the Liberal-National Government," Mr Barnett said.
"I would like to congratulate Liza Harvey, Murray Cowper and Michael Mischin on their elevation to the front bench.
"All have demonstrated an ability to tap into the needs of their local communities, and those skills will be vital in their new roles.
"Liza Harvey has experience as a small business woman and has a strong record of standing up for her local community and working with local police to target anti-social behaviour in Scarborough."
Mr Cowper is a former police officer who has held a number of parliamentary secretary roles since the Liberal-National Government came to office in 2008.
Before being elected to State Parliament, Mr Mischin worked as a barrister and solicitor and as a senior State prosecutor at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia.
He is well placed to take over the implementation of the Liberal-National Government's tough law and order agenda, having worked closely in support of Christian Porter as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Attorney General since 2009.
The Premier thanked outgoing Ministers Liz Constable and Rob Johnson for their enormous contribution to the State and dedication to the job.
"Liz Constable has played an integral role in this Government, and I thank her for her enormous support," he said.
"Dr Constable has presided over a period of significant reform, with the implementation of Independent Public Schools, the move of year 7's to high school, and a range of early childhood initiatives."
"As Police Minister, Rob Johnson has been passionate about supporting frontline police and has significantly improved community safety in this State.
"He also delivered on a personal commitment to ensure 100 per cent of revenue from speed and red light cameras was put into the Road Trauma Trust Fund, to help improve safety and reduce trauma on WA roads."
Mr Barnett said the new Ministers would be sworn in by the Lieutenant-Governor on Friday, the other changes would be put in place over the following days.
