Proponent selected for high-quality housing in Karratha

The State Government's Pilbara Cities' initiative gained further momentum today with a private developer chosen to deliver 80 new homes at Tambrey.

The State Government's Pilbara Cities' initiative gained further momentum today with a private developer chosen to deliver 80 new homes at Tambrey.

The Alcock Brown-Neaves Group (ABN) will develop a variety of new homes on currently undeveloped land in the southern half of Tambrey Primary School on Bowerbird Drive and Balmoral Road, approximately 5.5km west of the Karratha Town Centre.

The 5.3ha of land is surplus to the school's requirements, with the northern half used for the primary school and new early learning centre.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the State Government was committed to encouraging further private sector participation to help bring more land and housing to the North-West.

"The new housing estate at Tambrey is one of several significant projects to transform Karratha into a modern city," Mr Grylls said.

"Along with revitalising the town centre and residential and commercial developments at Tambrey, Nickol and Baynton West, Karratha is on its way to becoming a City of the North."

The Minister said the ABN Group would buy the land from LandCorp and develop land and housing to bring a range of options for homebuyers and those looking for new living choices.

The proponent had successfully responded to LandCorp's request to create a well integrated, quality residential development, in submitting a design with a strong emphasis on streetscapes and landscaping and good connectivity with public open space, primary school and surrounding area.

ABN had committed to complete the project in 32 months, well under LandCorp's 48-month project deadline for land development and then residential dwelling build out.

LandCorp is also working with a private consortium to develop the nearby Tambrey Neighbourhood Centre, which will become a place for the community to gather, incorporating medium density residential and mixed use development.
