Racing wins improvements from industry fund
- 29 projects across regional and metropolitan WA
- Current round to provide $2.2million
From the manicured turf of Ascot to the dusty main straight of the Marble Bar Race Club, racing infrastructure will benefit from the latest round of the State Government's racecourse improvement program.
A total of 29 projects at regional and metropolitan racing venues across the State will be funded in the second stage of the multi-million dollar grants program to improve infrastructure.
"This funding of nearly $2.2million will provide much-needed upgrades to tracks and facilities throughout Western Australia," Racing and Gaming Minister Terry Waldron said.
Mr Waldron said the Albany Race Club was one of the major beneficiaries in the first round with $413,560 made available for the construction of a new administration building.
"This is almost completed and will provide an enormous benefit to Albany racing," he said.
The second round of grants includes $230,000 towards a harness training track at the York racecourse; $171,147 for new plastic safety running rail at Pinjarra and Bunbury racecourses; and $261,600 towards a new maintenance shed at Byford Trotting Complex.
Perth Racing will also be a major beneficiary with $406,955 being provided towards Ascot grandstand remediation works.
The WA Trotting Association will receive $282,886 to replace worn out air-conditioning units and essential track equipment.
The Nor-West Jockey Club will receive $30,000 for new boundary fencing and the Broome Turf Club will receive $65,000 to install a digital video link to enable races to be broadcast on SKY.
The Collie Race Club will be able to undertake long-awaited upgrades to their tote facilities with a grant of $23,626 and Wagin Trotting Club will receive $12,435 to refurbish their facilities.
"This grants program is achieving fantastic results for the racing industry and I am very pleased with progress so far," the Minister said.
"This funding allows clubs to leverage other funds either through the clubs own development plans or other State programs such as Royalties for Regions."
