Redeveloped park opened in Port Hedland

The duplication of Cemetery Beach Park was today officially opened in Port Hedland by Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls.

  • Existing Cemetery Beach Park redeveloped following community feedback
  • Redevelopment cost $3million

The duplication of Cemetery Beach Park was today officially opened in Port Hedland by Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls.

The project was born from community feedback that the existing park was often overcrowded and unable to accommodate everybody due to overwhelming popularity with families, community groups and tourists.

Mr Grylls said funding of $1.5million was provided from Royalties for Regions through the Pilbara Cities Community Infrastructure Fund with a further $1.5million from BHP Billiton.

Located on the Hedland foreshore, Cemetery Beach Park has been doubled in area and improved with additional car parking; grassed areas; public art; playground equipment; shade; barbecue areas; and an outdoor stage built.

"I am delighted Pilbara Cities funding was used to support such a significant project for families and young people in the town," the Minister said.

"It is a good example of the important role of the State Government's Royalties for Regions program in building strong and vibrant communities that are desirable places to live.

"Port Hedland has a high population of families and young children and improving social infrastructure in the town is as important as providing access to essential services."
