Regional tourism marketing boost
- $7.9million over four years funded by Royalties for Regions
- Will create a dynamic new marketing campaign
- Drive growth in interstate and intrastate visitation
The State Government has committed $7.9million to boost visitation and tourism spending in regional Western Australia.
Announcing the funding today, Tourism Minister Kim Hames and Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the new marketing campaign would help stem the decline in interstate leisure tourism in recent years and build on the recent good growth in intrastate visitor numbers.
"The domestic visitor market is the lifeblood of WA's tourism industry, and for regional WA, tourism not only drives employment and income opportunities but also adds to community vibrancy and lifestyle," Dr Hames said.
"Regional WA is the cornerstone of the State's successful Experience Extraordinary brand. This funding will be used to create a dynamic new campaign, 1001 Extraordinary Experiences; produce two new major brand commercials to inspire people to visit regional WA; and increase co-operative marketing with industry.
"These initiatives will greatly assist WA to compete with other Australian States and Territories for the domestic tourism market."
The Government has agreed to reallocate some of the funding from the Royalties for Regions Regional Events Program into the new Regional Tourism Marketing Program.
"The new program will complement the Regional Events Program by increasing awareness of what the regions have to offer visitors," Mr Grylls said.
"There are about 3,500 tourism businesses operating in regional WA, the majority of which are small enterprises with limited marketing budgets.
"This funding will strengthen and support those businesses and communities by delivering more holidaymakers to regional WA."
