Revelation film festival receives funding boost
- Revelation Perth International Film Festival funding extended for next three years
- Festival to attract national or international film star
One of Western Australia's major annual screen culture events has received funding for the next three years from the State Government, through Eventscorp.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the funding for the Revelation Perth International Film Festival would help attract a national or international star to attend this year.
"Featuring a well-known, highly regarded film name will elevate the status of the festival and attract media attention, providing great exposure not only for the event itself but also for our extraordinary State," Dr Hames said.
"Founded in 1997, Revelation is one of the fastest growing film festivals in the country, annually attracting more than 10,000 people and showcasing new, ground-breaking national and international films.
"The State Government, through Eventscorp, has been a proud sponsor of the festival since 2009, and its investment has helped to support the screening of about 350 new international, short, animated feature and documentary films.
"In addition, the event has attracted more than 110 national and international guests such as renowned Australian film critics David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz."
The festival is recognised as one of Australia's key five annual international film festivals, and the only WA-based screen culture event to receive annual Screen Australia support.
The Minister said Revelation was part of an exciting 2012 events calendar, featuring an eclectic mix of 84 sports, cultural and arts events, with more to come.
"These diverse events will attract visitors to the State, provide fantastic media exposure for WA and add vibrancy to our community," he said.
