Rushton Park scores late goal from Royalties for Regions

Mandurah's Rushton Park Sporting Complex will provide state-of-the-art football and community facilities after its expected completion in June this year.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls today announced $125,000 further State Government Royalties for Regions funding to complete the complex.

"This funding will mean undercover seating will be expanded by 168 seats, or 30 per cent, and for the installation of a media room allowing matches to be broadcast live across regional Western Australia through the ABC network," Mr Grylls said.

The funding was matched by the WA Football Commission to ensure the development would be completed at a cost of almost $9million.

Dawesville MLA Kim Hames said the funding would provide facilities to make Rushton Park a premier sporting location and a showpiece of the Peel region.

The redevelopment, launched in December 2009, was kicked off with $1,373,000 from the Royalties for Region's Country Local Government Fund and $450,000 from the 2008-09 Peel Regional Grants Scheme.

The City of Mandurah contributed $1,544,000; Department of Sport and Recreation $700,000; Australian Football League $500,000; and Peel Thunder Football Club $365,000.

Funding also came from the Federal Government with $3,500,000 from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government; and $450,000 from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

The new facility will partly open on April 23 for the Easter Saturday fixture between Peel and West Perth.

The official opening will be held on June 18 and will coincide with the Western Australia versus Queensland State match.
