Safer conditions for Goldfields truck drivers
Works to upgrade a heavy vehicle parking bay on Great Eastern Highway, 20 kilometres west of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, are now complete.
The $530,000 project, completed in early May 2015, was managed by Main Roads Goldfields-Esperance Region and delivered by contractor, Lend Lease Services. It created 15 jobs for plant operators, traffic controllers and surveyors.
Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the work involved earthmoving, drainage works and construction of new sealed pavement.
"The upgraded parking bay gives year-round access to heavy vehicle operators in all weather conditions," Mr Nalder said.
"It will help drivers manage the effects of fatigue on long trips by proving a safe place to rest and stop."
The Minister said the works were part of the State Government's ongoing commitment to improving the safety and efficiency of the State's road network.
