Shire employee housing for Pingelly
Minister says quality housing attracts workers
$624,063 from Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund
The Wheatbelt town of Pingelly is set to benefit from new shire employee housing with funding from the State Government's Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund (CLGF) and a collaborative arrangement with the local shire.
Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said a two-bedroom duplex unit would be built at Pingelly and initially used for Shire of Pingelly staff.
It would be available for other key workers in the Wheatbelt, including police, education, health and aged care workers.
"The project is important because providing quality employee housing encourages workers and their families to live in regional towns, which helps to build social and economic capacity and increase the region's sustainability," Mr Grylls said.
"If local governments want to attract and retain staff, required to meet growing demands for services and continue to provide excellent service to the community, it is essential they provide quality employee housing.
"The regional group component of the Country Local Government Fund has enabled the shires of Pingelly and Brookton to co-operate financially and strategically to make this project happen.
"It is great to see local governments seeking more economically viable solutions to issues by sharing resources and collaborating on projects that benefit the broader region. I am pleased Royalties for Regions is playing a major role in encouraging local decision making."
