Local sporting communities around the State will benefit from the latest round of the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF).

This round of CSRFF small grants will enable clubs and local governments to provide new or upgraded sports facilities, to improve the quality of the experience for sport and recreation participants right across Western Australia.

Sport and Recreation Minister Mia Davies said good quality facilities encouraged people to participate in sport and active recreation and also allowed clubs and councils to attract new members and participants.

"While some of these grants might seem like small projects, they make a huge difference to the quality and amenity of local sport and recreation facilities," Ms Davies said.

Offered twice a year by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the CSRFF small grants for projects under $200,000 are for local sport and recreation clubs and councils to complete smaller projects that might otherwise be out of reach.

Grant recipients include:

  • Shire of Exmouth: $60,000 for the upgrade of 12 fairways at the Exmouth Golf Club
  • Shire of Murray: $36,067 for the upgrade of the surface and drainage at South Yunderup Oval
  • City of Subiaco: $25,569 to upgrade lighting to 10 indoor courts at Lords Recreation Centre.

The 28 projects totalling $787,205 in grants will assist with creating storage rooms, court resurfacing, upgrading irrigation, planning studies, court lighting and shade shelters at a sports pavilion.  Of the total number of projects, 23 recipients (totalling $597,549) came from regional WA and five recipients (totalling $189,656) are from the metropolitan area.

In addition to these projects, three Exmouth sporting clubs will receive funding towards rectifying damage to their facilities after recent cyclones Olwyn and Quang.

"The funding will help the clubs pay for the repair of the damage to their facilities," the Minister said.
