St Andrew's Hostel Special Inquiry update
- Premier supports final reporting time extension
An extension has been granted to the St Andrew's Hostel Special Inquiry final reporting date, Premier Colin Barnett announced today.
On November 16, 2011, former Supreme Court Justice the Honourable Peter Blaxell was appointed by the Public Sector Commissioner to undertake a Special Inquiry pursuant to section 24H(2) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 into the response of government agencies and officials in regard to allegations of sexual abuse at St Andrew's Hostel in Katanning.
"The terms of reference for the inquiry provided for a reporting date of May 31, 2012," Mr Barnett said.
"In March (2012) Mr Blaxell sought an extension of the reporting date to Wednesday July 18, 2012 to ensure all avenues of information were addressed by the inquiry, and particularly to ensure the principle of procedural fairness was observed in finalising the report.
"Mr Blaxell has now sought a final extension until August 3, 2012 and I have supported his request on the recommendation of the Public Sector Commissioner."
