State Budget 2010-11: Working together in Roebourne
The community of Roebourne is set to benefit from State Government investment of $5million from the 2010-11 State Budget.
"$5million has been allocated from the Liberal-National Government's Royalties for Regions program for the Roebourne Housing Initiative," Housing Minister Bill Marmion said.
"The Department of Housing will take a lead role in a whole of government approach to transforming the Roebourne community. The funding will assist in addressing long term issues that have been affecting the Roebourne community.
"The department will engage both the government and private sectors to work with the community to build capacity and address social disadvantage," Mr Marmion said.
Initial plans for Roebourne include the demolition of 25 homes that are located in an area of Roebourne known as 'The Village'. These homes are in extremely poor condition and, in addition to new housing, the community needs greater access to support and education services.
"In consultation with the community we are planning to completely transform this area by creating new and vibrant spaces for the community to enjoy. We will then begin the reconstruction program, with 12 homes scheduled for construction in the 2010-11 financial year," the Minister said.
"This budget allocation demonstrates the Government's commitment to the people of Roebourne and confirms our intention to provide improved living standards, greater employment opportunities and access to services" he said.
