State Budget 2011-12: Supporting our Community - State Government moves to support Gravity Discovery Centre
A leading regional science, education and tourism centre will continue to entertain and educate people of all ages with further support from the State Government.
Science and Innovation Minister John Day today announced that the Gravity Discovery Centre in the Shire of Gingin would receive more than $1.1million over four years to enable the centre to continue operating.
"The Gravity Discovery Centre is a public science educational facility focused on gravity, astrophysics and cosmology, as well as answering the big question - the origin of the universe," Mr Day said.
"The centre's unique and stimulating programs attracted about 20,000 visitors last year including school groups, the public and visiting tourists.
"The Gravity Discovery Centre plays a vital educational role by providing teachers with tools to help them invigorate their science programs to help capture the interest of the State's younger generation.
"The financial support will enable the centre to continue to develop future funding options."
The centre provides opportunities for visitors to climb the Leaning Tower of Gingin, learn about the evolution of the universe through the timeline in the Cosmology Gallery and discover more about the research under way at the Australian International Gravity Observatory and the Zadko telescope.
