The Perth Region Natural Resource Management (NRM) group has received a welcome boost through a Lotterywest grant for $241,780 to upgrade their information technology and office equipment.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Middle Swan today, Environment Minister Donna Faragher said the funding was well deserved.

"Perth Region NRM plays a key role in addressing community needs by working closely with government agencies and other bodies to promote collaboration on projects that address key environmental issues," Mrs Faragher said.

"Their approach to management and the restoration of our environment in the Swan Region is highly regarded and the group is doing a great job in helping to achieve positive land management practices."

Perth Region NRM (formerly known as the Swan Catchment Council) was established in 1995 and is one of six community-based regional NRM organisations operating across Western Australia.

The Minister said the money would be used to upgrade computer and office equipment to assist with the group's natural resource management activities across the metropolitan area.

"I thank the Perth Region NRM group for investing their time and effort to help with the management of environmental issues - a task which requires ongoing consultation with the community," she said.

"I always value the work being done by community groups to ensure the State's natural resources are looked after and protected for many years to come."

Through Lotterywest, WA is the only State where profits from lottery games are returned directly back to community groups in the form of grants.
