State-of-the-art Bannister Creek primary school opened

Education Minister Liz Constable today opened the new $13million Bannister Creek Primary School, an amalgamation of the former Ferndale, Kinlock and Lynwood schools.

Education Minister Liz Constable today opened the new $13million Bannister Creek Primary School, an amalgamation of the former Ferndale, Kinlock and Lynwood schools.

Dr Constable said the students, who moved on to the new campus at the start of the school year, would experience a range of learning opportunities with the facilities.

"The new Bannister Creek school will provide students with a state-of-the-art facility of which all members of the community can be proud," she said.

"The new campus has 12 classrooms; an inclusive learning area; activity spaces;

three early childhood classrooms; a library resource centre; covered assembly area and canteen; music and art/craft areas; and administration and staff facilities."

The campus also includes a dental therapy facility; an oval, and hard courts and cricket practice nets.

The school was first announced in 2007.  Students were temporarily based at the former Ferndale Primary School site while the new campus was built and staff, students and community members worked to establish a new school community with a shared vision and school ethos.

The Minister said students would now benefit from a positive school culture that reflected the values and aspirations of the community.

"The new buildings fit perfectly with the mature grounds of an old school site with established trees and shrubs reflecting the local indigenous flora," she said.

"The design of the new school gives greater flexibility to teachers to deliver exciting, diverse and challenging learning programs for students."
