Kalgoorlie-Boulder's sporting community now lays claim to a modern state-of-the-art sports pavilion at the Ray Finlayson Sporting Complex.

The final stage of the project has been made possible by an extra $7 million investment by the Liberal National Government and $1.9 million from the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

Officially opening the pavilion today, Premier Colin Barnett said the State Government was committed to providing quality sport and recreation infrastructure for people of all ages and abilities.

"Sport is at the heart of regional communities and plays a central role in bringing people together," Mr Barnett said.

"Infrastructure such as this provides opportunities for community engagement and interaction which are critical to building sustainable communities in regional Western Australia."

The multi-purpose pavilion now includes change rooms and associated amenities, a function room and kitchen, concourse, tiered seating, squash courts and office facilities.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said the investment enabled residents to maintain an active lifestyle and enjoy a greater quality of life in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

"New facilities will help grow the memberships of sporting clubs and can even encourage sports such as Gaelic football and hurling to be set up in Kalgoorlie-Boulder," Mr Redman said.

"The pavilion will provide opportunities to attract higher level sporting entertainment and stimulate further investment into the region."

  • The State Government has contributed a total of $13.9 million across all stages of the project including playing fields, an equestrian centre and club house facilities
  • The Government's investment in the final stage of the project includes $6 million from Royalties for Regions Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund and $1 million from the Department of Sport and Recreation's Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund
  • The Goldfields-Esperance Revitalisation Fund is a $198 million (from 2013-14 to 2018-19) Royalties for Regions initiative that invests in priority projects to enable economic and social development in the region
