Sue Murphy appointed chief executive officer of the Water Corporation
Water Minister Dr Graham Jacobs today announced the appointment of Sue Murphy as chief executive officer of the Water Corporation, for a term of three years.
Mrs Murphy replaces Jim Gill who has led the corporation since its inception in 1996.
"Mrs Murphy has a strong engineering background and the right personal qualities to undertake this challenging role," Dr Jacobs said.
"The new chief executive officer has worked four years for the Water Corporation, most recently as general manager, Planning and Infrastructure. In this role, she was responsible for the management of a capital works program worth more than $1billion a year, including design, construction and commissioning of all new assets."
Mrs Murphy has a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from The University of Western Australia. In 2000, she was the national winner of the Telstra Business Woman of the Year in the private sector category in recognition of her work at Clough Engineering, where she spent 25 years before joining the corporation.
The Minister said he looked forward to working with Mrs Murphy in the planning and delivery of WA's water needs.
Dr Jacobs thanked Dr Gill for the pivotal role he had played over the past 12 years in securing Perth's water supply in the face of a severely drying climate.
