Tomorrow, more than 39,000 Western Australian Muslims will join with millions around the world to celebrate Eid-al-Adha - a time of reflection on the sacredness of life.

The celebration is significant in the Muslim community and marks the end of the Hajj -the pilgrimage to Mecca.  During Eid-al-Adha, many Muslims will be spending time with family and friends as well as donating to charities.

In WA, Eid celebrations will be held across the State and will draw thousands of participants from across the community.

Citizenship and Multicultural Interests Minister Mike Nahan said this year's Eid festivities would provide an opportunity for everyone to get involved and learn more about WA's Muslim community.

"Eid-al-Adha has been celebrated in our State since 1896 and is now an important event on our cultural calendar," Dr Nahan said.

"The State Government, through the Office of Multicultural Interests, is supporting a number of Eid-al-Adha festivities including events in Whiteman Park, Carine, Southern River, Northbridge Piazza and the Langford Islamic College.

"These festivals always boast a myriad of cultural performances, cuisines, exhibitions and carnival activities for the whole family and I encourage everyone to get involved."

The Minister said the State Government proudly acknowledged and celebrated cultural diversity as one of the State's great strengths.

"On behalf of the Government, I would like to wish all Western Australian Muslims a happy Eid and for those who have made the pilgrimage to Mecca, I wish you safe travels," he said.
