A three-week event featuring a laser, light and water show has been organised to celebrate the opening of the Elizabeth Quay public realm from 4pm this Friday until Sunday, February 21.

Planning Minister John Day said the extended celebration would provide people with multiple opportunities to visit and experience everything on offer.

"The laser, light and water show will be a key feature with five shows every night with the first show starting at 8pm and the last at 10pm," Mr Day said.

"The 10-minute shows combine visual effects and dozens of water fountains across the inlet and have been specifically developed by Oracle Liquid for our State.  There are three different choreographed routines which will be rotated.

"We don't expect everyone will be able to come on the opening night or weekend so we have organised for the celebrations to take place over three weeks.  I encourage everyone to take the opportunity at some point to come and see Elizabeth Quay for themselves."

Road closures around the quay will be in place from 6pm to 10.30pm on Friday, January 29 to ensure pedestrian access along The Esplanade, Barrack Street and William Street.

Elizabeth Quay is easily accessible by all modes of public transport including train, bus, CAT and ferry.
