  • CBH, Brookfield Rail continue discussions to reach commercial outcome
  • Aim to find efficient and sustainable solution for the long term

Transport Minister Troy Buswell today announced Tier 3 railway lines were to remain in operation with State Government investment until at least October 31, 2013.

Following a meeting with CBH and Brookfield Rail, Mr Buswell reaffirmed the commitment of all parties to achieve a sustainable, long-term grain transport network.

"The State Government's investment of $3.325million in 2011-12 and the fact that lower than predicted volumes of grain have been transported on these lines since 2011, resulting in less wear and tear, will enable these lines to remain open," he said.

"Brookfield and CBH will continue ongoing dialogue on the transport of grain by rail and, if economically viable, keep Tier 3 lines operational in the future."

The Minister said while all parties agreed it was not time for the State Government to intervene, it would continue to work with all parties to facilitate a sustainable arrangement to keep Tier 3 lines operational.

"The State Government is confident Brookfield and CBH can find a mutually agreeable commercial solution which is both efficient and effective in the long term," Mr Buswell said.
