Unique perspective of Year 12s depicted in art

• 69 works selected from visual arts students across WA

• Free exhibition on display at the Art Gallery from March 7 

• Public can vote for favourite artist in the People's Choice Award

Artworks created by 65 of the State's most talented visual arts students from 2014 will be on display at the Art Gallery of WA (AGWA) from March 7.   

Year 12 Perspectives features works by students from across Western Australia including Geraldton, Albany and Busselton to the metropolitan areas of Willetton, Hillarys, Claremont and Midland.  Mediums include painting, drawing, sculpture, digital moving image, photography and textiles.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the exhibition provided Western Australian audiences with the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of young adults.

"This exhibition provides an insight into the thoughts and social environment of today's youth, while celebrating their exceptional creative talents," Mr Day said.

"It's a first stepping stone into the world of art."

This year, 69 works were selected by the judging panel which comprised AGWA curator Robert Cook, Western Australian artist Teelah George and visual arts teacher Kate Grayson, representing the Department of Education.

Education Minister Peter Collier said the exhibition provided emerging artists from across the State with the opportunity to showcase works created during their final year of high school.

"Year 12 Perspectives provides young artists with a unique opportunity to display their work in the State's premier visual arts institution," Mr Collier said.

This year's winner of the People's Choice Award will receive a $500 voucher for art supplies to assist in their ongoing creative journey.
