Works will start to widen Bussell Highway and refurbish the bridge over Carbunup River, at Wildwood Road in the South-West region.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder announced that $2.3 million would be spent on the works, which would improve the journey for motorists using the intersection.

"Bussell Highway is an important transport and tourist route linking Margaret River and Busselton," Mr Nalder said.

"Widening the bridge and providing a dedicated right turn onto the highway will reduce the potential and severity of crashes.  These works will ultimately increase safety for all road users."

The intersection upgrade will maintain access to businesses on the south-western corner of the Wildwood Road intersection.

Funding for the project has been made available from the Safer Roads Program, as part of the State Government's ongoing commitment to improving the road link.

The upgrade will be delivered by Main Roads' Integrated Service Agreements contractor, Fulton Hogan and is expected to be completed in early 2016.
