Upgraded Scarborough Police Station opens
- $1.87 million station upgrade to Scarborough Police Station
Scarborough station capacity has doubled to 80 officers
Mirrabooka, Morley and Warwick also refurbished under $11.75 million project
The Scarborough Police Station has officially opened its doors as part of a multi-million dollar upgrade to stations across the northern suburbs.
Police Minister Liza Harvey said the refurbished station could now accommodate 80 officers. The original building was designed for 38 when it opened in 1996.
"Scarborough is undergoing a once in a generation transformation and upgrading its police station reflects that growth along the new WA Police Frontline 2020 operating model," Mrs Harvey said.
The upgrade was part of an $11.75 million upgrade to stations across the north-west metropolitan area including Mirrabooka, Morley and Warwick.
"This Government is dedicated to safe communities through tough laws and providing police with the resources they need to combat crime and anti-social behaviour," the Minister said.
The upgrades include extra office area for local police teams; public foyer improvements; extra parking; gym and change room area.
Local police teams are one essential plank of the new Frontline 2020 police operating model. These teams focus on crime in their neighbourhood and are a point of contact for residents with crime issues.
Response teams still patrol areas like Scarborough and strike when and where they are needed.
